Evans upbeat despite shattered dream
From correspondents in Saint-Amand-Montrond, France
July 27, 2008 CADEL Evans was upbeat despite facing one more stage of the Tour de France with his dream of becoming the first Australian to win cycling's greatest race in tatters.
Evans needed to overhaul a 94-second deficit to leader Carlos Sastre on the penultimate stage, a 53km individual time trial from Cerilly to Saint-Amand-Montrond, but only managed to close the gap to 65 seconds.

Bowden in the spotlight again
July 26, 2008
RICHMOND veteran Joel Bowden again played the central role in a nail-biting finish, as the Tigers produced a barnstorming final quarter to down Brisbane by three points at Telstra Dome.
The Tigers booted eight goals to three in the last quarter to storm back from 25 points down at the last change and win 18.9 (117) to 16.18 (114), keeping their finals hopes very much alive

Tour De France
Well there you go. He showed true aussie effort and spirit, well done.

2nd
And you cant keep him down...
No rest for weary Evans
From correspondents in Paris, France
July 28, 2008
STEPPING off the Tour de France podium, Cadel Evans' over-riding emotion was relief.
The Australian finished runner-up for the second straight year, this time to Spaniard Carlos Sastre, who rides for Team CSC.
"I rode a good race,'' said Silence-Lotto rider Evans, who was still in pain after a crash on July 14.
"I gave everything, 110 per cent of what I had in my legs I got onto the road and onto the results board but obviously it wasn't good enough.
"I was lucky to continue after that first crash. I'm still sore now.''
Now he must allow his tired, aching body to recover before representing Australia at the Olympic Games, starting in Beijing on August 8.

Sonny Bill factor worth 10 extra points as Saints smash Bulldogs 30/0 . Another brother takes the money and runs . Funny how such measly acts are always blamed by the perpertrator on some sort of unfairness by the rest of us . Money is important and the delusion of probity is even more so . The punters just shake their heads .

He's home ... Polak released from hospital after five weeks. Michael Dodge
Polak released from hospital
July 30, 2008
INJURED Richmond defender Graham Polak has been released from hospital and is back at home.
The key position player was put in an induced coma after being struck by a tram in Melbourne nearly five weeks ago, sparking fears that the injuries could have long-lasting repercussions.
The club says it's another positive development, but Doctors say Polak isn't ready for a press conference at this stage of his recovery.
"We are thrilled that Graham has been able to show doctors at the Epworth Rehab Centre enough positive signs that he can return home." Richmond coach Terry Wallace said.
"Graham still has a long way to go in his recovery, but this is considered another positive step."
Richmond's doctors say Polak will undergo extensive rehab over the coming weeks.

The NRL is becoming a joke. it really irks me that players are signing contracts with opposing clubs half-way through a season. It's tough barracking for a team when you know some of the players will be elsewhere the following year. Its hard to stay loyal to a team when Club Management and Players show very little loyalty.
I have followed the Bulldogs for 40 years but the heart has been ripped out of the club the past few years , Willie Mason, Mark O'Meley, Braith Anasta etc. And the Sonny Bill Williams incident is the last straw.
I don't know what the answer is but the NRL will loose fans in large numbers if this continues.
I'll get off my Soap Box Now.

Commiserations to you Oz.And please the soap box is deservedly your after 40 years of Dogs ( I was going to say balls there , but the non Aussies would not get it ) loyalty to the Bulldogs, get up and yell if you must. Have a thought that DVD could be sympathetic after the Gasnier announcement.
if all else fails,
You could come over to the Titans camp ! Scotty says he's stayin loyal and Rogers came back from Union.

Stepping stone to greatness
By Bret Harris
August 02, 2008 AUSTRALIA will enter the defining Test against New Zealand in Auckland with the sense that the team is on the verge of a new golden era.
There have been several false dawns for the Wallabies since they lost to England in the final of the 2003 World Cup in Sydney, but there is a growing belief that this team can achieve something special in the next four years.

All Blacks trounce Wallabies
From correspondents in Auckland, New Zealand
August 02, 2008 ROBBIE Deans'
Australia bubble well and truly burst as the Kiwi coach tasted his first defeat since taking the helm of the Wallabies, a 39-10 loss to New Zealand in his homecoming Test at Eden Park.
Injury-depleted New Zealand dominated Australia from the outset with a pinpoint kicking game, some smothering defence and lineout pressure allowing them to score four tries to one in front of a jubilant sell-out crowd of 46,000.

Saints v Tigers , both these teams gave a tutorial on attack versus the Doggies in the last fortnight . This one will be more of a wrestle , am scared The Tiges could put 30 on us before we start though .
Titans v Knights looks promising to , Knights are coming good at the right time and if the Prince of the Gold Coast returns it will do wonders for the team . Five rounds til the finals

CADEL Evans has banished doubts over his Olympic Games fitness with a robust training hit-out.
The double Tour de France runner-up rode strongly over four loops of the 23.8km road race circuit through two sections of the Great Wall of China, north-west of Beijing.
